How Etsy fees are calculated (US sellers)
- Listing fee: $0.20 per listing, renewed at $0.20 each time an item sells (and every 4 months).
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of the item price plus the shipping and gift-wrap you charge (not US sales tax).
- Payment processing (Etsy Payments, US): 3% of the order total plus $0.25 per order.
- Offsite Ads (only on attributed orders): 15%, or 12% for shops with $10,000+ in sales in the past 365 days, capped at $100 per order.
Net profit = (price × quantity + shipping charged) − all fees − (item cost × quantity) − your shipping cost.
Worked example
You sell one mug for $25 and charge $5 shipping. It costs you $8 to make and $4.50 to ship, and the order came from an Offsite Ad (15%).
- Order revenue: $25 + $5 = $30.00
- Listing fee: $0.20
- Transaction fee: 6.5% × $30 = $1.95
- Payment processing: 3% × $30 + $0.25 = $1.15
- Offsite Ads: 15% × $30 = $4.50
- Total Etsy fees: $7.80 · Your costs: $12.50
- Net profit: $9.70 (32.3% margin)
Without the Offsite Ad, the same sale would net $14.20.
FAQ
How much does Etsy take per sale?
For a US seller, Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25 per order. On a $40 sale with free shipping that is about $4.25, or roughly 10.6%.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee both apply to the shipping amount you charge the buyer.
What are Etsy Offsite Ads fees?
If a buyer clicks an Etsy Offsite Ad and orders within 30 days, you pay 15% of the order total (12% if your shop sold $10,000+ in the past 365 days). The fee is capped at $100 per order. Shops under $10,000 can opt out.
Is the $0.20 listing fee charged for each item sold?
Yes. Listing a multi-quantity item costs $0.20, and it auto-renews for another $0.20 each time one sells, so effectively $0.20 per item sold. Listings also renew every four months.
Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?
For US sellers, the transaction fee does not apply to sales tax, but the payment processing fee does. This calculator excludes sales tax, so processing fees may be slightly higher in practice.
How is the break-even price calculated?
It is the per-item price at which your revenue exactly covers all Etsy fees plus your item and shipping costs, given your shipping charge, quantity and Offsite Ads setting.
Is this Etsy fee calculator free?
Yes, it is completely free with no signup or account. All calculations run in your browser and nothing is stored.
What percentage of a sale does Etsy take?
Without Offsite Ads, Etsy takes about 9.5% of the order total plus $0.45 in fixed fees per single-item order. That is the 6.5% transaction fee, 3% + $0.25 payment processing, and the $0.20 listing fee.
Can Etsy fees exceed $100 because of Offsite Ads?
No, the Offsite Ads fee itself is capped at $100 per order. Your other fees (listing, transaction and processing) still apply on top of it.
Who should use this calculator?
It is built for US Etsy sellers who want to price products profitably. It shows each fee, net profit, margin and the minimum break-even price per item.
